I found it easy to see around the pole. Seats were in the grand circle which is indeed very high up with steeps stairs - be careful!
With our obstructed view seats (dress circle row F, seats 27 & 28) for the Book of Mormon, the pole did not obstruct our view at all - so if you're thinking whether or not to grab that cheaper ticket I say go for it! - absolutely agree wholeheartedly. check out the dressing rooms take in the view from the stage Princess Theatre (Melbourne) Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Two aisles run either side of this section, at seats 23 and 38, which can provide a little extra legroom for patrons in these seats. Hands down, the best seats in this theatre are the front rows of the dress circle. zoom in for a closer view! Save.
This seat is in the back third of the stalls, off to the right. If you're going to get restricted/impeded view tickets I really recommend doing so in the grand circle. The grand circle seating really is on a steep lean - i went to a show with someone who couldn't hack it & the usher said that wasn't unusual. The Princess Theatre is one of Australia's top theatrial venues. Fantastic show that appeals to everyone. Restricted view seat - but your view is barely restricted and is actually quite good.
The seat is on an aisle. Excellent value for money.
However, the seats are not stepped well, and I had a terrible time trying to see over the head in front of me. Sitting in centrally in rows A-G is the best option, as seats face the stage head-on and are staggered on a decent rake to ensure no obstructions. The same seat on the other side of the theatre has a much more obstructed view.

Yes, the slope of the theatre is not sufficient enough to allow for a good view. Various theatres have occupied the site since Gold Rush days in the 1850s.. Now it's in the hands of David Marriner, who spent a small fortune restoring the theatre to its former glory. Only comment is more ladies toilets please ! The dress circle overhang doesn’t affect the view in this row.

The pole doesn’t really block the stage. It sits low, so you don’t feel you are peering down on a show, and it is relatively close to the stage.
